Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her after her hometown. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's mother and father have both been Jewish. Ryder believes herself to be Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria, and has half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder as well as her entire family moved to Mendocino County in California, when Ryder was seven. The family was in a house that didn't have electric power. Ryder would read extensively due to the absence of television. Ryder was 12 when she was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. In the year she turned 15years old, Ryder was offered her very first role on the screen in Lucas. Ryder had to deal with bullying throughout her teenage years. She hoped acting would bring about a change. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. Still she continued pursuing her dreams. In 1988, she got her biggest break with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful roles in various films. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her role as a character in The Age of Innocence (1993).
